Call an end to foul play

Rutherglen Reformer - - Helping Hand -

South Lanarkshire Council wants your help to rid our communities of dog mess.

‘Wanted’posters are going up across the authority this week as part of a renewed winter campaign to stop irresponsible owners in their tracks.

The aim is to encourage residents to report issues in their area, pinpointing times and locations where enforcement officers can target resources.

And, anyone caught not clearing up after their pet by the patrol team will be given an on-the-spot fine of £40. This fixed penalty notice (FPN) rises to £60 if not paid in time.

Councillor Hamish Stewart, Chair of the Community Services Committee, said: “We are constantly striving to raise awareness of environmental crimes in our communities, be it dog fouling, littering in our street, parks and surrounding countryside or fly tipping. And, this campaign hinges on getting the public behind that message.

“I would urge residents to keep a sharp eye out and, where possible identify the person or describe their dog, identify an area where this is happening at a regular time of day or night, or, give us information on an area which is causing concern.

All information can be provided anonymously on 0303 123 1015 or e-mail customer.services@southlanarkshire.
