Rutherglen Reformer - - News - Kenny Smith

A g ro u p o f w r i t e r s f rom Rutherglen recently celebrated the publication of first collection of work.

Members of the An Ruadh Ghleann group, which meets each month in Rutherglen Library, released an anthology of their work.

The event in the library got underway when light refreshments were served, with readings from the anthology later being given by the members.

Local artist Nora Dillon provided the cover image, with a painting of the Town Hall.

Irene Lebeter, the Ruadh Ghleann secretary, said: “Our book launch last night was a great success with 40 people in the audience.

“Refreshments and nibbles were enjoyed prior to the readings.

“The pieces read out were well received by the audience and the evening was rounded off by a raffle, the prizes all donated by group members.

“Thanks were expressed to the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association for sponsoring the book, to South Lanarkshire Council for their support of the group and to Julie Smith and her staff in Rutherglen library for their tremendous help in hosting the event.”

The group meets in Rutherglen Library on the fourth Monday of each month, from 5.30-7pm.

Writers of all abilities are made welcome, where they encourage and critique each other, to improve their skills.

The first meeting of 2015 will take place on January 12.
