McAvoy stunned

Rutherglen Reformer - - Election Reaction -

Rutherglen and Cambuslang have lost an“outstanding”MP says the man who had the seat for 23 years.

Baron McAvoy of Rutherglen was at last Thursday’s count as Tom Greatrex lost the seat the SNP’s Margaret Ferrier.

He said:“I am extremely disappointed, not only for Tom Greatrex as an outstanding member of parliament, but also that the Labour Party have been rejected so much in our area. The result is not a reflection on Tom of any kind.”

Going forward, Lord McAvoy admits Labour face some tough questions, not just in Scotland but across the UK, and said:“There’s been a tide, a tsunami. It seems like the 45 per cent who voted Yes had one party to vote for whereas the majority was split between three parties.

“We lost the support of a lot of people and we need to dig deep and find out why we lost that vote and trust.“
