Run­ners join in Can­cer Re­search’s Race for Life

Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang run­ners were in the pink on Sun­day for a great cause.

Around 10,000 en­trants dressed in pink joined Bri­tain’s big­gest Race for Life event, or­gan­ised by Can­cer Re­search UK, with many of the num­ber com­ing from Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang.

One of the event’s spon­sors was Tesco, and 37 fe­male staff mem­bers from the Burn­side store took part in this year’s event to help raise funds for can­cer char­i­ties.

With the help of cus­tomers, col­leagues and fam­ily dona­tions, it looks like they have raised a re­mark­able £3000.

Over the past five years, the store has raised over £10,000.

Com­mu­nity cham­pion Karen Jarvie said: “Burn­side staff and cus­tomers are renowned for get­ting be­hind a good cause, and it fills me with pride to know that around 70 per cent of the fe­male staff took part this year.

“Thanks also must be given to the staff who worked to­day to en­able oth­ers to par­take in the event.
