Strum-thing special for our young rocker Robbi
A teenage Airdrie musician is striking the right chord with fans after winning the endorsement of a top British music producer.
Robbi McFaulds has the backing of EMD Music to play their top quality James Neligan acoustic guitar on stage.
And the extra strings to Robbi’s bow couldn’t have come at a better time as the 16-year-old debuted his new guitar during his second straight appearance at the Stereofunk music festival.
Robbi played to a packed crowd on the unsigned stage at the tenth annual Strathclyde Park-based musical extravaganza.
The teenager told the Ticket: “This is the first endorsement I have had and to get it from a company as big as EMD Music is a real pleasure.
“They run a branch of James Neligan guitars and they are now funding me to use the instrument at all of my gigs.
“This is really good news and a big boost to my musical career.
“The guitar sounds brilliant and it was great using it for the first time at the Stereofunk Festival.
“This was second year in a row performing on the Stereofunk bill and the crowd at the unsigned stage were really loud and appreciative of my music.
“I was on stage for about 20 minutes and enjoyed every single second of it.”
Robbi is currently studying sound and music production at the Coatbridge campus of New College Lanarkshire and while he has already tasted impressive early success – including being crowned top Scot at the prestigious Open Mic UK contest in 2013 – the young singer shows no signs of resting on his laurels.
He said: “I am heading down to London soon to do some promo work and advertising to get my name and music out there to an even bigger audience.
“I am also performing a gig every week between now and June.
“Most of them are quite local, across Lanarkshire, but there are some further afield.
“I am also doing a lot of writing in between these gigs and, while it can become quite hectic, I feel so lucky to be working in an industry I am so passionate about.
“I love performing and the opportunity to meet with all of my fans so it’s brilliant to be so in demand.”
