Chal­lenge for young go-get­ters

Bud­ding en­trepreneurs through­out South La­nark­shire are be­ing in­vited to take part in the an­nual Young Ap­pren­tice com­pe­ti­tion for se­nior school pupils.

Now in its fourth year, the ini­tia­tive aims to give the young peo­ple tak­ing part the knowl­edge, con­fi­dence and self- be­lief to con­sider start­ing their own busi­ness in the fu­ture.

When the 16 can­di­dates are se­lected, they are put into teams and work on a va­ri­ety of busi­ness chal­lenges over a two week pe­riod. Groups are mixed up for each chal­lenge, al­low­ing all can­di­dates the op­por­tu­nity to work with one an­other.

Loosely based on the popular BBC tele­vi­sion pro­gramme, marks are awarded for each task and who­ever wins the most points wins the ti­tle of South La­nark­shire

Young Ap­prent i c e . The win­ner, run­ner up, “can­di­date’s choice” and the four pupils who win the fi­nal task all re­ceive prizes at an Awards Din­ner at the end of the fort­night.

Fourth, fifth and sixth year pupils who are in­ter­ested in tak­ing part are asked to email he­len@brightyel­low­think­ing. com for an ap­pli­ca­tion form. Closing date for ap­pli­ca­tions is Tues­day, June 2 with prospec­tive can­di­dates in­ter­viewed on Thurs­day, June 4. The com­pe­ti­tion it­self takes place on week­days from Mon­day, July 27 un­til Thurs­day, Au­gust 6.
