Roses bushes to be dedicated to county volunteers
Special rose bushes are to be planted in Rutherglen and Cambuslang to mark Volunteers’Week.
Organised by Volunteer Action South Lanarkshire (VASLan), the group have purchased rose bushes named South Lanarkshire Volunteers.
During Volunteers’ Week there will be 10 dedication ceremonies., with two of these taking place in Rutherglen and Cambuslang.
The Cambuslang planting will take place today, Wednesday, June 3, from 10am-noon, at the Cambuslang Park entrance at Mansfield Avenue, followed by a reception at Cambuslang Parish Church’s Kirkhill hall on Cairns Road.
Then the following day, Thursday, June 4, the Rutherglen ceremony takes place from 1-3pm at the Meeting Place, at Stonelaw Church, 2 Dryburgh Avenue.
The dedication ceremonies consist of elected members and volunteer involving organisations giving speeches and dedicating the rose bush, which will be followed by tea/ coffee/cakes in the venue, as well as the planting of the rose bushes.
