Roses bushes to be ded­i­cated to county vol­un­teers

Spe­cial rose bushes are to be planted in Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang to mark Vol­un­teers’Week.

Or­gan­ised by Vol­un­teer Ac­tion South La­nark­shire (VASLan), the group have pur­chased rose bushes named South La­nark­shire Vol­un­teers.

Dur­ing Vol­un­teers’ Week there will be 10 ded­i­ca­tion cer­e­monies., with two of th­ese tak­ing place in Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang.

The Cam­bus­lang plant­ing will take place to­day, Wed­nes­day, June 3, from 10am-noon, at the Cam­bus­lang Park en­trance at Mans­field Av­enue, fol­lowed by a re­cep­tion at Cam­bus­lang Parish Church’s Kirkhill hall on Cairns Road.

Then the fol­low­ing day, Thurs­day, June 4, the Ruther­glen cer­e­mony takes place from 1-3pm at the Meet­ing Place, at Stonelaw Church, 2 Dry­burgh Av­enue.

The ded­i­ca­tion cer­e­monies con­sist of elected mem­bers and vol­un­teer in­volv­ing or­gan­i­sa­tions giv­ing speeches and ded­i­cat­ing the rose bush, which will be fol­lowed by tea/ cof­fee/cakes in the venue, as well as the plant­ing of the rose bushes.
