A Rutherglen Boxing Club had four fighters in action at an East Kilbride show at the end of last month.

On Friday, May 29, Durie’s Boxing Gym, who operate out of Hillhouse Industrial Estate, had boxers competing in the Jackton ABC show at Ballerup Hall in East Kilbride.

First in was 11-year-old James Sweeney, at 34kg, who was having his second bout to date. And it was his second win on the trot when he easily handled Vincent Scott from Bellahouston ABC by unanimous decision.

Then it was Springburn lad Gerard McTaggart (11) at 36kg. He was in against current Scottish champion Marcus McKenzie of Kier Hardie ABC. This was a close contest which really could have went either way but the Kier Hardie lad got the nod with a split decision.

Next was Castlemilk man Danny Burke at 71kg. He was in against a hard punching lad from Alloa, in the form of Anas Nfaou. Danny showed great ring craft and his experience to win this bout comfortably by unanimous decision.

Last in was Castlemilk man Jason Thomson, 91kg, against James McGrachan from Broadwood ABC. Again this was a great close little contest which could have went either way but it went against Jason.

Duries ABC remain open during the summer. For information on classes contact Archie Durie on 0759 051 5576.
