Celebrating the arts
Cathkin High School pupils have been excelling in the arts.
The music department made their annual trip to Netherurd House, just outside Biggar, for band camp.
It was a fantastic weekend as always where pupils had the opportunity to play in the wind band, string group, jazz and soul band, rehearsing new pieces of music to ensure they are ready to perform at the school’s spring concert.
The drama department hosted a showcase performance evening in March where S4-6 pupils performed extracts from their SQA performance exams. This was an excellent opportunity for pupils to perform in front of an audience prior to their exams and also allows parents/carers the opportunity to see their young people perform.
Congratulations to Katie Mullen and Zara Sutherland, both in S2, who were winners of the Royal Scottish Academy Schools Art Awards 2015.
Katy was one of the main prize winners along with another 12 winners from across the country and received a prize of £250.
Zara Sutherland was recognised with a ‘highly commended’in the junior level. Both girls, along with all other prize winners, had their work exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh during March and April.
