Cathkin High School pupils have been ex­celling in the arts.

The mu­sic depart­ment made their an­nual trip to Netherurd House, just out­side Biggar, for band camp.

It was a fan­tas­tic week­end as al­ways where pupils had the op­por­tu­nity to play in the wind band, string group, jazz and soul band, re­hears­ing new pieces of mu­sic to en­sure they are ready to per­form at the school’s spring con­cert.

The drama depart­ment hosted a show­case per­for­mance evening in March where S4-6 pupils per­formed ex­tracts from their SQA per­for­mance ex­ams. This was an ex­cel­lent op­por­tu­nity for pupils to per­form in front of an au­di­ence prior to their ex­ams and also al­lows par­ents/car­ers the op­por­tu­nity to see their young peo­ple per­form.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Katie Mullen and Zara Suther­land, both in S2, who were win­ners of the Royal Scot­tish Academy Schools Art Awards 2015.

Katy was one of the main prize win­ners along with another 12 win­ners from across the coun­try and re­ceived a prize of £250.

Zara Suther­land was recog­nised with a ‘highly com­mended’in the ju­nior level. Both girls, along with all other prize win­ners, had their work ex­hib­ited at the Royal Scot­tish Academy in Ed­in­burgh dur­ing March and April.
