Stalwart Susan dies
Cambuslang community councillor Susan Smith has died at the age of 68 after a long illness.
The community stalwart passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning at Hairmyres Hospital.
Susan, who also served on the Summerfest committee, was born and bred in Cambuslang, growing up in the Circuit as one of three sisters and a brother.
She attended St Bride’s Primary in the town and later worked for the electricity board in Glasgow.
She lived in Whitlawburn for a period before moving to Borgie Crescent, where she stayed for many years. Her husband, John, passed away a few years ago and her only child, Mark, died in 2009.
Susan’s friend, Councillor Clare McColl, said: “Susan was well respected by everyone and you were always due a lively debate when she came to the meetings. She will be sadly missed.”
Jack Taylor, chair of the community council, added: “Susan was a very attentive, articulate, worthy and welcome member of the community council.”
Summerfest committee chair, John Edgar added:“She was a lovely woman, always bubbly and joyful and she couldn’t do enough to help people.”
Her funeral service will take place at St Bride’s on Saturday (June 28) at 10am.
