Interceptor back on air
Sean O’Kane talks about ’89 show
Cambuslang man Sean O’Kane has taken to the airwaves to discuss his hit 1980s gameshow Interceptor.
He was interviewed on BBC Radio Solent by presenter Louisa Hannan, who was a big fan of the show, which ran for eight episodes over 1989 and 1990.
Not only did the former Trinity High pupil discuss his work on the show, which has been repeated on TV channel Challenge recently, he also talked about his career, working on Cagney and Lacey and doing stunts in Hollywood.
Sean said: “It was a phone call I got out of the blue, as the presenter, Louisa, was a big fan of Interceptor when she was younger.
“It was really nice to talk about it and how I got into the business, and how the Interceptor was born.”
Louisa told the Reformer: “In terms of why we did it, I was a massive fan of Interceptor as a teenager and was delighted to switch on one of the Freeview channels one Sunday morning to see the series being repeated.
“It brought all the magic back and stood the test of time despite being 25 years old! I wondered what Sean was up to and, now the internet’s been invented, searched his name, found his website and decided to drop him a line.
“I told him what I did for a living now and that it would be great to chat to him on my radio show and remind other Interceptor fans how great the show was and he agreed to come on.
“It was a delight to talk to him and find out he’s not nearly as scary as he came across when I was 13!”
Sean revealed that the show has a celebrity fan, in the form of Hollywood star Kevin Dillon. Entourage star Dillon and Sean were room-mates back in 1986, and have stayed in touch. Sean and his family attended the premiere of the Entourage movie last month, at the invitation of Kevin.
The actor, who now lives in Ayrshire, said: “I was talking with Kevin and he said our shows were both on on-demand TV.
“He said he loved Interceptor, and I told him he was talking rubbish as he’d never have seen it. He told me it was on-demand, and we went down to the hotel reception and he asked them to put it on and there it was, on Sky on-demand – Entourage and Interceptor, side by side!
“Kevin said he loved the show and had shown it to his friends, who thought it was great too!”
