Toxic waste was un­earthed dur­ing build­ing work at Ruther­glen’s new men­tal health re­source cen­tre, lo­cated next to the ma­ter­nity hos­pi­tal and ex­ist­ing health cen­tre.

Pro­tes­tors stepped up their fight to save Ruther­glen Ma­ter­nity Hos­pi­tal from clo­sure, by vow­ing to go to the Euro­pean Court of Hu­man Rights.

Ruther­glen’s for­mer Barcelona, Aberdeen, Clyde, Spurs and Scot­land striker Steve Archibald re­turned to Shaw­field to launch his new soc­cer school.

Fly tip­pers in To­ry­glen were slammed by lo­cal res­i­dents, who were an­gered by the rats be­ing drawn to the area.

The Spit­tal gala was held, with Claire McKenna be­ing crowned as the area’s gala queen.
