Po­lice abuse charge de­nied

A man from Ruther­glen was due to ap­pear in Glas­gow Sher­iff Court this week af­ter at­tempt­ing to fight with po­lice of­fi­cers.

Thomas Ed­ward Stevens (41), from Trossachs Road, is ac­cused of com­mit­ting the of­fences on April 12 this year.

He is charged with act­ing in a threat­en­ing and abu­sive man­ner dur­ing the course of a jour­ney be­tween Trossachs Road and East Kil­bride Po­lice Sta­tion and within the po­lice sta­tion. He alledgedly shouted, swore, re­peat­edly kicked the tyre of a marked po­lice ve­hi­cle and chal­lenged po­lice of­fi­cers to a fight.

He is also ac­cused of pos­sess­ing a lock­back knife on Trossachs Road.

Stevens pleaded not guilty and the case is set to go to trial on July 14.

Bail was con­tin­ued.
