SPF products are not just for the hols

Rutherglen Reformer - - Intimations -

There’s nothing nicer on a nice warm day than turning your face up to the sun and feeling its warmth beat down on you. But beware!

That warm feeling you get all over is actually damaging your skin .. and it’s not the heat that’s doing it, it’s the UV rays. And here’s the catch. They can even wreak their havoc on days that seem far removed from bikinis and ice creams on the beach.

In the UK, particularly in Scotland where the skies are more gunmetal grey than clear blue, we tend to think that we only need to use an SPF on holiday. But that protection is not just the preserve of the Costas because the UV rays of the sun are there every single day, even penetrating through our windows.

We might not feel them, but those harmful rays are ever present and very damaging to your skin.

They are responsible for ageing our skin so let’s block them out and keep that complexion glowing and beautiful!

My advice is always wear a product on your face that contains an SPF, whether it’s your moisturiser, foundation or even both .. use something. Even if the weather doesn’t look like you’ll need to break out the sandals any time soon.

My daily foundation is Pressed Base by Jane Iredale which is a four- in-one product - a foundation, concealer, powder and broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF all rolled into one.

Always give your face some daily protection.

And as for sunbeds, steer well clear.

If you feel like you need a little summer colour, my advice is fake it, don’t bake it. It’s 3am, the heels have been hung up, the party dress is lying in a pile on the floor, the jammies are on, the pint of water is on the bedside table and you’re ready to fall face first into bed …. STOP!

While it might be tempting to hit the hay immediately, you really don’t want to wake up with panda eyes and a pillow case that looks like it has been Tango-ed.

We’ve all done it – including me – but it really is always best to make sure that you take off your make-up before you go to bed.

Your skin with thank you for it in the morning and I have the perfect 30-second answer to this problem so there’s no excuse to wake up wearing the evidence of the night before.

When you’re just too exhausted to go through your regular cleanse, tone and moisturise routine, reach for the Make up Eraser!! (www.makeuperaser.co.uk)

This award winning product is the answer to our night time, night out prayers!!

In one simple step it will remove all of your make-up - without using any chemicals - including the dastardly waterproof mascara.

Simply wet this amazing pink cleansing towel in warm water and rub in a circular motion until all your make up is gone.

And the great news is that you can rinse this magical little cloth and re-use it again and again.

You can even pop it in your washing machine when it needs a freshen up.

So once you’re done cleansing, just pop on some moisturiser or your favourite night cream, slip on your eye mask and head off to the Land of Nod feeling smug and guilt free that in the morning you won’t wake up to a tired face with clogged, dehydrated skin!

Sweet dreams.
