Pupils gain their bronze awards

Six pupils from Ruther­glen High School have achieved their Bronze Duke of Ed­in­burgh Award fol­low­ing a trek in Glen­tress.

The team of sixth year pupils, made up of Owen Camp­bell, Ge­orge Al­bert, Ni­cole Cas­sells, Leah Bren­nan, Thom Gil­mour and Craig MacPher­son all com­pleted their award by tak­ing part in a two day ex­pe­di­tion based in Glen­tress near to Pee­bles. The team had to com­plete a 12km hike in the hills be­fore pitch­ing a camp and fend­ing for them­selves overnight . The sec­ond day, they had a shorter, low level walk to com­plete.

All six had also car­ried out a se­ries of chal­lenges over the year which saw them com­plete ac­tiv­i­ties as di­verse as swimming, gar­den­ing, mu­sic and child-care.
