Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death (15)

Rutherglen Reformer - - The Ticket -

For her second haunting, the titular spirit waves goodbye to original lead Daniel Radcliffe and instead terrorises a group of kids in WW1 London.

Londoner Tom Harper helms only his third feature film and struggles to blend in the same menace James Watkins brought to the first flick.

The biggest mistake he and writer Jon Croker make is to sideline the monstrous menace.

Another problem – pretty fatal for a horror movie – is that it’s just not very scary.

Focus is more on drama, with the odd jump thrown in, and a credible heroine in Phoebe Fox’s teacher Eve.

Angel of Death is one spooky sequel that fails to build on the eerie original’s promise.
