Huge boost for club from Ro­tar­i­ans

ar­range­ment of the wide va­ri­ety of speak­ers last year.

Some high­light events of the past year were Ro­tary plant fayre, in­di­vid­ual stands at Burn­side in Bloom and Lan­de­mer Day along with the un­usual Al­ter­na­tive Race Night which were all re­garded as hav­ing been suc­cess­ful fundrais­ers.

In the com­ing year the var­i­ous com­mit­tees have the fol­low­ing plans:

The usual char­ity col­lec­tions at lo­cal su­per­mar­kets in Novem­ber.

Another fundrais­ing “al­ter­na­tive” race night in Fe­bru­ary 2016

A joint choir night and din­ner with Cam­bus­lang and Den­nis­toun Ro­tary Clubs in March 2016 at the King’s Park Ho­tel.

A plant fayre in May 2016, again in Ruther­glen Abbey­field.

Lan­de­mer Day stalls con­firmed for next year’s event.

Fur­ther plans were made to link with one or more Ruther­glen High Schools with re­gard to spon­sor­ship of an event for pupils.

A quiz night con­firmed at Cathkin Braes Golf Club in Oc­to­ber 2015, with funds to be do­nated to Kil­bryde Hos­pice.

The club will again sup­port the spon­sored cy­cle/trek round Mill­port in sup­port of the Pauline Fitz­patrick Me­mo­rial Fund to sup­port Strath­clyde Univer­sity’s Strath­clyde In­sti­tute of Phar­macy and Bio­med­i­cal Sciences. This to take place at the end of Au­gust.

Sup­port for the Ro­tary Cro­cus Ap­peal to help pri­mary school pupils be­come aware of po­lio. Two pri­maries have agreed to take part so far. Plans are in place to pro­vide packs to the schools in Septem­ber 2015.

The an­nual pri­mary school quiz is planned for late March/ early April 2016.

Com­mu­nity ser­vice award. It was agreed that this lo­cal ser­vice award should be re in­tro­duced by the club. Cri­te­ria would be de­cided and nom­i­na­tions sought from Club Mem­bers.

The club plan to in­tro­duce a Ro­tary ini­tia­tive called “Ro­taKids” lo­cally which sets out to help lo­cal school chil­dren with cit­i­zen­ship and or­gan­i­sa­tional skills. In­ter­ested schools should see www. ro­tarygbi.org/ro­takids-needs-you/

A so­cial out­ing trip is planned to Mount Stu­art, Bute in Septem­ber 2015.

The an­nual din­ner will be in Novem­ber at once again at Cathkin Braes Golf Club.
