New editor for the Reformer
It’s all change at the Rutherglen Reformer next week.
Editor Kenny Smith (41) is leaving this week, and is moving to our sister paper the Ayrshire Post, with senior reporter Douglas Dickie (34) succeeding him in the post.
Kenny, from Cambuslang, has been with the Reformer since November 2003 as chief reporter, and as editor since April 2013.
Former Cathkin High pupil Kenny is looking forward to the challenge at the Ayrshire Post, succeeding Cheryl McEvoy on the paper which was named Scottish Weekly Newspaper of the Year in 2014.
He said: “Having featured in the Reformer as a primary one at West Coats, delivered the paper when I was at high school, and spent the past 12 years working on it, the paper has always been a part of my life.
“The Rutherglen and Cambuslang communities are fantastic, and it’s been a real privilege to have worked on the paper that’s always been there as a part of my life.
“It’s a real challenge taking on the editorship of Media Scotland’s best-selling weekly paper and Cheryl has certainly set the bar very high.
“But I know she has built a great team there and I’m looking forward to working with them.
“I’m delighted Douglas is taking over, and wish him and the team every success in the future.
“The Reformer’s news coverage has never been more local, highlighting everything that’s going on in Rutherglen, Cambuslang, Burnside, Halfway, King’s Park, Croftfoot and Castlemilk, It’s been an honour.”
Douglas, a former Spittal Primary and Stonelaw High pupil who has been with the Reformer since 2004, said: “It’s a real honour to become editor of such an established title.
“As someone who grew up in the Royal Burgh, I know how important the Reformer is to the local community and the important role we have to play.
“I only hope I can continue the fine tradition of a newspaper that is a real, local institution.
“On a personal level, I’d like to thank Kenny for his leadership, guidance and friendship over the past few years.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with him and I’m sure he’ll be a success in his new job.
“Although, I really hope the people of Ayrshire like their Doctor Who stories!”
