Members of the Rutherglen branch of the Scottish Socialist Party failed to let their bizarre banning by PayPal ruin their Cuba-themed night on Saturday night.

Last week, we reported that the US company had refused to take payment for the event because the Caribbean country is still under a trade embargo.

But there was no way that was going to stop party members as well as their friends and family from having a great night at the Glencairn venue.

The event coincided with the anniversary of the failed attack on the Moncada Barracks, an army facility in the city of Santiago de Cuba, on July 26, 1953.

Branch secretary, David McClemont, said:“It was a great night, everyone seemed to have a great time.

“It’s definitely been a great success and we’re already making plans for next year”

It is believed PayPal have previously taken issue with Cuban-nights where raffle tickets are included in the ticket price and the prizes on offer are Cuban goods.
