It’s welcome relief for group

Protestors enjoy fitness workout

Rutherglen Reformer - - News - Kenny Smith

Protestors against the new road through Cathkin and Fernhill have been enjoying some welcome relief of their own.

Since it was announced that South Lanarkshire Council planned to build the Cathkin Relief Road, residents in the area have been actively campaigning against the plans.

Tracy Chambers, from Rutherglen, has been taking fitcamp sessions for the group, giving them the chance to exercise together.

These sessions are taking place every Wednesday evening.

Tracy said: “It came about after one of the protestors, Gill Gorwan, got in touch, to ask if I would like to take some exercise classes for them in the park.

“It’s a really lovely bit of ground and it’s such a shame that the council want to build a road through it.

“So far, we’ve had some pretty good turnouts, through word of mouth, having about 20 people along so far.

“It’s gone really well, with a mixture of ages coming along, and everyone’s really enjoyed the chance to get out into the park, and get the chance to socialise together, which is great.”

The group meets in the park each Wednesday at 7.30pm. It’s free, but attendees can pay £2 for a recovery session with Tracy afterwards.
