Martin’s big voice in Make It A Treble
Performer relishes role at brewery show
A Rutherglen man is set to take to the stage in a musical extravaganza with one of Glasgow’s most successful amateur theatre companies.
Talented Martin McHendry, originally from Farme Cross, will feature in Glasgow Music Theatre’s production of ‘Make it a Treble!’, which will come to the Drygate Brewery in Glasgow this weekend.
The show will feature a range of numbers from Broadway musicals past and present, from Singin’ in the Rain to the Lion King to the Wedding Singer.
And former Stonelaw High pupil Martin will feature in no less than six numbers during the show, which will run for two nights.
No stranger to the stage, Martin has previously featured in GMT productions of West Side Story and How to Succeed in Business Without Really trying.
The 29-year-old is relishing the opportunity of performing in front of a live audience once again: “Being on stage, in front of a big audience. There’s nothing like it at all.
“Rehearsals have been intense! On Sunday we are doing the first run, eight hours in a wee studio together.”
However there was no casting involved for this show. It’s made up of GMT performers who have been in prior productions and was open to anyone who had been on stage for the company.
And that’s what makes it a show not to be missed, according to former Burgh Primary pupil Martin.
“It’s just friends celebrating what brought them together, and giving the public the best performers they’ll see outside of a West End stage,” he said.
“It’s packed with the most talented people in Scotland, and you’ll see stars of tomorrow on that stage, doing their damndest to blow you away.”
Make it a Treble! will come to the Drygate Brewery on Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9. Doors open at 7pm.
