Annual voter canvass starts

Rutherglen Reformer - - News - Staff reporter

The annual voter registration canvass starts in August, and residents in Lanarkshire are asked to ensure that they complete the Household Enquiry Forms (HEF) sent to each household over the next couple of weeks.

Residents will need to complete the form issued to them and return it as soon as possible to ensure that they will remain on the electoral register and are able to vote in any future elections.

This year’s canvass is looking to capture the details of young persons who will be 16 by the date of poll (May 5, 2016) in order that they may be registered to vote in the upcoming Scottish elections.

Residents are being reminded that credit reference agencies use the electoral register as a check when assessing credit applications. Therefore if people are not on the register, their ability to access credit may be affected.

A fine up to £ 1000 may be imposed for failing to supply the information. If you have any queries contact the Lanarkshire Electoral Registration office on freephone 0800 030 4333.
