Making a trunk call for Tembo
Veteran publisher SEGA has teamed up with Game Freak – of Pokemon fame – to make the sort of 1990s-style Sonic The Hedgehog Mega Drive game it’s tried and failed to make for years.
Except it stars an elephant, not SEGA’s famous spiky, speedy mascot.
With a small move set that makes a nod towards the Sonic games – you can perform continuous dashes and curl up into a ball to attack, as well as spraying water from your trunk to clear obstacles – Tembo has some superb level design.
Looking like an interactive cartoon you propel the pachyderm through a varied, well-paced series of platform challenges, over 18 stages.
As a modern take on the same games that dominated the 1990s scene, Tembo is a hoot, never forgetting its roots but trumpeting its own tune too.
Going old school Game has great level design
