Queen’s Park ............... 0 For­far ................ 2 Queen’s Park were knocked out of the League Cup on Satur­day af­ter fall­ing to a 2-0 de­feat to League One side For­far at Ham­p­den.

The Loons took the lead in 16 min­utes. Paul Woods had just failed to pull off a one-two with Tony Quinn in the For­far box a minute ear­lier, but there looked lit­tle dan­ger when For­far broke at the other end.

Tem­ple­man tried to drive into the box but the ball broke to the edge of the area and Derek Young, with the game’s first shot on tar­get, drove it low past the div­ing Wil­lie Muir at his left-hand post.

For­far dou­bled their lead on 29 min­utes from the spot. Byran Whar­ton clum­sily barged into the back of Young and the ref pointed for a penalty

Wil­lie Muir blocked Fother­ing­ham’s ef­fort, but Den­holm was first to the loose ball to smash it into the net past the un­lucky keeper.

Queen’s im­proved in the sec­ond half but couldn’t get back in to it.
