NO C-UPSET AS QUEEN’S KNOCKED OUT
Queen’s Park ............... 0 Forfar ................ 2 Queen’s Park were knocked out of the League Cup on Saturday after falling to a 2-0 defeat to League One side Forfar at Hampden.
The Loons took the lead in 16 minutes. Paul Woods had just failed to pull off a one-two with Tony Quinn in the Forfar box a minute earlier, but there looked little danger when Forfar broke at the other end.
Templeman tried to drive into the box but the ball broke to the edge of the area and Derek Young, with the game’s first shot on target, drove it low past the diving Willie Muir at his left-hand post.
Forfar doubled their lead on 29 minutes from the spot. Byran Wharton clumsily barged into the back of Young and the ref pointed for a penalty
Willie Muir blocked Fotheringham’s effort, but Denholm was first to the loose ball to smash it into the net past the unlucky keeper.
Queen’s improved in the second half but couldn’t get back in to it.
