Hampden highlight has Derek delighted
Derek Young was celebrating on Saturday after bagging the first Hampden goal of his 19-year career.
The former Cathkin High pupil has unhappy memories of his previous trips to the national stadium having never won a game on the hallowed turf until now.
So after finally netting against Queen’s Park for Forfar on Saturday, the 35-year-year was delighted.
Derek, who also starred for Aberdeen and Dunfermline at Hampden, said: “It’s my sixth visit here and four of them have been defeats and one a draw before now.
“It’s not been too kind to me, so it’s great to come to Hampden and get a win, but the goal has just topped it off.
“It wasn’t the cleanest strike I’ve ever hit, but I’ll take it.
“My last game here was the Scottish Cup semi-final when we lost (4-0) to Celtic about five years ago, so this was a happier experience.
“But Hampden is a great place to come no matter who you are playing. If you can’t enjoy it out there you might as well wrap up playing football.”
