65 jobs to be created
Work on the new M c D o n a l d ’s in Rutherglen is set to start within the next month.
The restaurant is expected to open by the start of next year and will create 65 new jobs.
We reported in October that the worldwide burger chain had lodged a planning application for the site on Dalmarnock Road, beside the River Clyde.
And the planning application was approved at a committee meeting in December.
The chain will be located next to the Tesco Superstore, accessible by the roundabout used to enter the store and the filling station.
It will feature a drivethru and will be able to accommodate around 160 diners at a time and there will be around 37 car parking spaces.
A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “Our new restaurant will provide significant investment for Rutherglen and is expected to open in winter 2015, with construction work expected to begin in the autumn. The new opening will create at least 65 new jobs and we are excited about developing a long and positive relationship with the local community and its residents.”
The prospective location is currently a brownfield site with limited social and economic function.
Council leader Eddie McAvoy welcomed the news when it was announced and said: “It’ll make a big difference, especially down at that area where we could do with some investment to make the place more attractive.
“It will create a number of new jobs as well.”s
