Hoop dreams on of­fer for teens

A South La­nark­shire bas­ket­ball group who regularly hold classes in Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang are look­ing for new vol­un­teers to join their coach and vol­un­teer path­way.

The aim of the pro­ject is to give a young per­son, aged be­tween 16 and 24, the op­por­tu­nity to gain work ex­pe­ri­ence, qual­i­fi­ca­tions, men­tor sup­port and a ref­er­ence with the aim of help­ing them reach a pos­i­tive des­ti­na­tion.

It is funded by the Scot­tish Gov­ern­ment’s Peo­ple & Com­mu­ni­ties Fund and Sported.

Each par­tic­i­pant will be ex­pected to vol­un­teer two hours a week at one of the pro­gramme’s bas­ket­ball de­vel­op­ment academies, and help out with other pro­grammes.

By the end of the course the par­tic­i­pants will have gained 13 new qual­i­fi­ca­tions, as well as in­creased con­fi­dence.

Reach For The Sky Bas­ket­ball has re­cently been ac­tive over the sum­mer, hold­ing classes in both Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang and get­ting young­sters in­volved more in the sport.
