Cool kids club for explorers

Rutherglen Reformer - - NEWS FROM THE PEWS - Jonathan Geddes

Youngsters at Cambuslang Parish and Flemington Hallside churches were cool customers recently.

That’s because the churches were holding a combined holiday club, with around 60 eager kids taking part.

And even though it was the first week of August, there was a frosty atmosphere around, as the club had a special theme of Polar Explorers.

Jan Ritchie, who helps with the holiday club, felt the children had a great time.

She said: “We had on average 56 youngsters each day, ranging from P1 to P7.

“Our arctic explorers ‘ Barefoot’ and Sir Random McFines guided the children through a week of fun, games, messy challenges, and following the stories of a number of people from the New Testament.

“There was also the ‘ big sledge’ challenge, where each group have been designing a ‘super sledge’ with the winner being chosen at the holiday Service last Sunday.

“The summer camp also featured great singing and dancing, not to mention joke time and drama.

“We had an amazing number of ‘Young leaders’ who helped in many ways all week, too, about 14 in all.”
