The Town That Dreaded Sundown (15)

Rutherglen Reformer - - REVIEWS -

A horror remake with a difference, this one, as the plot follows a contemporary series of killings echoing the original 1976 film.

Director Alfonso Gomez-Rejone is clearly a fan of Scream as he takes a post-modern approach full of in-jokes and genre staples.

Addison Timlin does a fine job in the “final girl” role amid clever nods to the peril of celebrity after she survives the masked killer’s initial attack.

Solid support comes courtesy of Gary Cole, Veronica Cartwright and Joshua Leonard.

It’s no modern horror classic, though, as Gomez-Rejone and the writers lose the courage of their earlier convictions during a conventional, predictable stalk-and-slash finale.
