Call for mental health action

Rutherglen Reformer - - News -

A Rutherglen councillor has called on mental health problems to be treated with the same urgency as physical health issues.

Councillor Robert Brown, who is also the Lib Dem’s lead candidate for the Glasgow region at next year’s Scottish election, wants extra investment in mental health services.

He said NHS Scotland spent 8.6 per cent of its budget on mental health compared with 11.9 per cent down south.

He added:“This is really a starkly lower figure for Scotland and it needs to change.

“One in four people in Scotland are estimated as suffering from mental health problems during their lives, so it is an issue that affects just about every family in our community.

This is a matter wholly within the control of the Scottish Government.

“It is time for action by the SNP Health Minister on it.”
