Pack will help NHS staff iden­tify early stages of malnutrition

NHS La­nark­shire are set to help iden­tify pa­tients through­out Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang who are at risk of suf­fer­ing malnutrition.

NHS La­nark­shire’s di­etetic ser­vice has pro­duced a pack which will help staff iden­tify pa­tients at risk of malnutrition to en­able ear­lier in­ter­ven­tion.

Ti­tled Nutri­tion Mat­ters in the Com­mu­nity, the pack con­tains a Malnutrition Uni­ver­sal Screen­ing Tool (MUST) which can be used with adults in any set­ting be that in a hos­pi­tal, care home, with out­pa­tients or in a pa­tient’s own home.

Aileen Boyd, NHS La­nark­shire’s lead di­eti­tian for the pri­mary care di­etetic ser­vices, said:“Malnutrition or un­der-nutri­tion is a ma­jor public health con­cern and as pa­tient safety is our top pri­or­ity, we’ve pro­duced this pack to help health pro­fes­sion­als ad­dress it.

To help pro­mote MUST and raise aware­ness of the im­por­tance of early iden­ti­fi­ca­tion and in­ter­ven­tion, NHS La­nark­shire’s di­etetic oral nutri­tion sup­port team has been rais­ing aware­ness of the pack to key staff.
