Pack will help NHS staff identify early stages of malnutrition
NHS Lanarkshire are set to help identify patients throughout Rutherglen and Cambuslang who are at risk of suffering malnutrition.
NHS Lanarkshire’s dietetic service has produced a pack which will help staff identify patients at risk of malnutrition to enable earlier intervention.
Titled Nutrition Matters in the Community, the pack contains a Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) which can be used with adults in any setting be that in a hospital, care home, with outpatients or in a patient’s own home.
Aileen Boyd, NHS Lanarkshire’s lead dietitian for the primary care dietetic services, said:“Malnutrition or under-nutrition is a major public health concern and as patient safety is our top priority, we’ve produced this pack to help health professionals address it.
To help promote MUST and raise awareness of the importance of early identification and intervention, NHS Lanarkshire’s dietetic oral nutrition support team has been raising awareness of the pack to key staff.
