Rutherglen Reformer - - News - Douglas Dickie

A 10-year-old boy was knocked down on Newton Farm Road on Monday night.

The incident happened around 6pm. Eyewitnesses said the lad was on the road near the path connecting the street with Acacia way when he was struck by the car.

He was taken to hospital, but thankfully his injuries were not lifethreatening.

Police are believed to be treating the incident as an accident and are not pursuing criminal charges against the driver.

Members of the Facebook page, All About Cambuslang, were left stunned at the incident.

One person who said the seen the incident said:“I witnessed it, was horrible, felt so sorry for the driver as well nothing he could do. The boy ran straight out from the wee lane at Acacia Way. Hope he is ok. I helped him and spoke to him until a woman took over who got off the train who was medically trained.”

Another wrote:“I heard the screams when I left Newton station. At first I thought it was just kids messing about, I hope going to be okay...”

PC Greg Robertson of Police Scotland’s Safer Communities Department, said:“We would ask drivers and pedestrians to take care when you are in the community.

“Accidents do happen but if we

all drive responsibly and ensure as a pedestrian we are crossing roads safely, we can reduce the number of accidents in the community. Scene The boy was hit on Newton Station Road
