Ben­e­fits charge

A Cam­bus­lang woman has been ac­cused of re­ceiv­ing over £ 5000 in ben­e­fits to which she was not en­ti­tled.

El­iz­a­beth Hous­ton, of Jura Ter­race, ap­peared at Glas­gow Sher­iff Court on Tues­day, Au­gust 18.

On var­i­ous oc­ca­sions be­tween May 12, 2009 and June 26, 2014, both dates in­clu­sive at prop­er­ties at Clifton Ter­race and Jura Ter­race, Hous­ton ( 62) is ac­cused of fail­ing to give the Depart­ment of Work and Pen­sions prompt no­ti­fi­ca­tions of a change in cir­cum­stances which she knew af­fected her en­ti­tle­ment to in­come sup­port. It is al­leged she failed to re­port her hus­band was in re­ceipt of an an­nu­ity and is thus ac­cused of gain­ing pay­ments of in­come sup­port to the to­tal of £5200.43 to which she was not en­ti­tled.

She pleaded not guilty and is due to reap­pear on Septem­ber 9. Bail was con­tin­ued.
