Ben­e­fits charge

A Cam­bus­lang wom­an­has been ac­cused of oba­tin­ing over £7000 in ben­e­fits to which she was not en­ti­tled.

Gil­lian Suther­land (34), of Strath­clyde Gar­dens, ap­peared in Court on Tues­day (Au­gust 25).

Be­tween Oc­to­ber 5 2009 and July 8, 2012 at a premises in Smith Ter­race, Ruther­glen and Red­path Drive in Cam­bus­lang, Suther­land al­legedly failed to give prompt no­ti­fi­ca­tion to the Depart­ment of Work and Pen­sions of a change in her cir­cum­stances that she al­legedly knew would af­fect her en­ti­tle­ment to car­ers al­lowance.

It is al­leged she failed to de­clare she was not res­i­dent in Great Bri­tain and is there­fore ac­cused of gain­ing £7884.95 in car­ers al­lowance to which she was not en­ti­tled.

Suther­land pleaded not guilty and is due to reap­pear on Septem­ber 9. Bail was con­tin­ued.
