Kelly is Labour business manager

Rutherglen Reformer - - News - Staff reporter

James Kelly MSP has retained his role as Scottish Labour business manager in Kezia Dugdale’s first front-bench team.

The role, which was initially given to Mr Kelly by former Scottish leader Jim Murphy in December, will see him take responsibility for organising the party’s affairs within the Scottish Parliament.

The business manager is usually a trusted lieutenant to the party leader.

Mr Kelly had supported Ms Dugdale’s leadership bid.

He said: “I’m delighted to have been chosen to serve in Kezia’s front bench team.

“With less than a year until next year’s election, it’s vital that we have a strong team of people who will offer an alternative vision to the people of Scotland.

“Kezia has already outlined her priorities of education and childcare, issues central to Scottish Labour’s values of equality and social justice.

“I’m looking forward to working hard and playing my part in offering Labour’s vision of what we can do differently here in Scotland.

“The local party has already been out campaigning, talking about local issues at street stalls in Rutherglen and Cambuslang, and doorknocking, on Saturday.”
