A Rutherglen and Cambuslang charity is calling on the help of knitters in the area to help elderly people in the community this winter.

LEAP are taking part in a knitting campaign run by innocent smoothies, joining volunteers across the UK by knitting tiny woollen hats to fit on innocent smoothie bottles this winter. Innocent will then donate money to LEAP, for every woollen hat that is knitted, to help older people.

R:evolve Recycle will be running educational, free, knitting drop-in workshops in September at the shop on Farmeloan Road in Rutherglen and a knitathon class for the bottle hats in Cambuslang.

The money that LEAP is seeking to raise through its participation in the campaign will help fund the Christmas hamper that LEAP supply to isolated elderly people in the community.

Georgie Madden, LEAP’s Business Development Manager, said:“For any keen knitters out there, please get in touch – any and all help we can get would be really appreciated. And if you can’t knit yourself but you know someone who can, then please help to spread the word.”
