Glencairn narrowly missed out on reaching the last eight of the sectional league cup.

The Rutherglen men finished second on goal difference behind Vale of Clyde after winning three games in a row 3-2.

Glens 1-0 loss to rivals Cambuslang Rangers, who finished third, proved costly, and gaffer Willie Harvey said: “We’re very disappointed.

“If you don’t take your chances and lose stupid goals though it comes back to bite you.

“We had one chance against Vale, we had three men through and we didn’t score.

“If we had, that would have sent us through on head to head. It has all come down to the first game.”
