Car crash in Half­way

A sec­tion of street in Cam­bus­lang was wrecked af­ter a car ac­ci­dent on Satur­day morn­ing.

Po­lice were called to the in­ci­dent on Hamil­ton Road at around 11am, just out­side Half­way Li­brary, where Ruther­glen MP Mar­garet Ferrier was hold­ing her surgery.

A sec­tion of street bar­rier was knocked away by the car, which was left badly dam­aged.

Mar­garet said:“The scenes on Satur­day morn­ing were quite shock­ing, and I’m in­cred­i­bly thank­ful there were no se­ri­ous in­juries.

“The emer­gency ser­vices are to be com­mended on their quick re­sponse and the way in which the sit­u­a­tion was han­dled when they ar­rived on the scene.”

A po­lice spokes­woman con­firmed that a 33-year-old woman was ar­rested in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent and charged with care­less driv­ing and driv­ing un­der the in­flu­ence of drugs or al­co­hol.

A re­port was sent to the Proc­u­la­tor Fis­cal.
