Glens left frustrated by resolute Vics

Ten-man Glencairn were left frustrated not to start the season with a win over Blantyre Vics.
Glens made a few changes with Niscanci, Welsh, Boal and Shaw all coming in to the starting XI.
The away side thought they should have had a penalty inside four minutes when Terry Hewitt wrestled McLaughlin to the ground, ripping his shirt in the process.
A lovely ball from Muir sent Tait through on goal, but Blantyre‘keeper Paul Burns denied the striker.
Burns again kept Vics level when he parried Niscanci’s shot.
A lovely passing move resulted in McLaughlin finding himself clean through, but again Burns was off his line to make the block.
Blantyre offered more in the second half and Muir had to scramble Thomson’s header away from goal before Burns tipped McLaughlin’s striker round the post.
Glens found themselves reduced to 10 men in the 73rd minute when Boal kicked the ball at Ferguson, with the ref deeming it worthy of a red.
Despite the man disadvantage, Glens continued to press and Burns had to save a Niscanci shot late on. Rutherglen Glencairn: Hutchison, Shaw, Boal, Doyle, Neil, Welsh, Nisanci, Alan Muir, McLaughlin (Zok), Tait, Fraser.
