Rutherglen race ace Stevan McAleer has lost his lead in the Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge ST with just two races remaining.

The former Stonelaw student and teammate, Chad McCumbee, dropped to second place in the contest after finishing seventh in their class at the Virginia International Raceway.

However, they are just three points behind leader Andrew Carbonell and go into action again on September 16 at Circuit of The Americas in Austin Texas.

Steven suffered mehcanical problems in Virginia, with a damaged right rear shock.

He later posted on facebook: “Strategy and determination were key today for the CJ Wilson Racing racing guys as we finished in P7 with a pretty ill handling car due to a blown right rear shock on lap five.

“Best workout I’ve had all season and car did some interesting things by itself haha.

“We may have lost the championship lead but are only a few points behind now in P2 with two races to go.”

There was better news though as his own team picked up their second win of the year.
