Greenkeeper’s store at bowling club broken into
Hooligans smashed their way into the greenkeeper’s store at Halfway and District Bowling Club and made off with brand new equipment.
Up to six youths – boys and girls aged 14 to 15 – used a mallet to smash the padlock of the club’s container before stealing a new petrol hedge trimmer worth £450.
On Wednesday (September 2), they also removed a £1000 scarifier device which is used to drill holes in the green to assist drainage.
It was found dumped and damaged nearby – and the greenkeeper fears it is beyond repair.
A committee member claims the gang was captured on CCTV outside the clubhouse on a concrete path while trying to set alight oil stolen from the container.
The committee member says this is the latest in a series of daytime attacks on the club since the start of the season in April.
He claims they have snapped plastic markers around the green and have even scrawled their names on the dug-outs.
Police Scotland confirmed they have received reports about the latest incident.
