Glimpse into lo­cal history

Ru­gol­ni­ans are be­ing of­fered the chance to have a glimpse in to the town’s history this week­end.

As part of Doors Open Days, which takes place through­out Scot­land, Ruther­glen Her­itage So­ci­ety is let­ting peo­ple see some of the an­cient Bound­ary Stones which marked the bound­ary of the an­cient Royal Burgh of Ruther­glen

They are hold­ing an ex­hi­bi­tion of their re­search into the history of the stones at 84 Cam­bus­lang Road (next to Flem­ings Car­pets Ware­house) on Satur­day, Septem­ber 12, from 11 am to 4pm, and on Sun­day, Septem­ber 13, from 1pm to 4pm. There will also be a guided walk.

Other sites in Ruther­glen which are tak­ing part in Doors Open Days are Ruther­glen Li­brary which is of­fer­ing tours of the li­brary build­ing on Satur­day, Septem­ber 12. For more in­for­ma­tion con­tact the li­brary on 0141 613 5380.

Ruther­glen Old Parish Church will be open for mem­bers of the public from 10am to noon on Satur­day, Septem­ber 12 and also from noon to 4pm on Sun­day, Septem­ber 13.
