Green light is given for telephone mast

Rutherglen Reformer - - POLITICS -

Councillors have given the go ahead for a 15 metre high phone mast to be built on land at Burnside Bowling Club.

Members of the planning committee ok’d the proposal from H3G UK Limited at their meeting yesterday (Tuesday).

Eight objections were made to the plan, which will see a second mast placed on a flat area of land to the north of the two bowling greens.

The equipment cabinet will be located behind an existing mature hedge.

All the objections came from people living on Blairbeth Road.

They claimed to have experienced interference with their landlines since the first mast was erected and were worried about the possible impact on property prices.

Other concerns included noise emissions, the loss of an un-spoilt view and the potential impact on lifestyle.

But officers dismissed the arguments, telling councillors:“I am satisfied that this proposal more closely accords with the aims and objectives of the council’s policy in relation to telecommunications than the other available alternative of an additional streetwork monopole.”
