Duncan makes world cup squad
Cambuslang lad Duncan Weir has earned a place in Scotland’s rugby World Cup squad.
The former Cathkin High pupil and Cambuslang Rugby club player was one of two fly-halves selected in Vern Cotter’s party for the tournament, which takes place in England and Wales later this month.
He’ll now join the team for fixtures against Japan, the USA, Samoa and two-time world champions South Africa, with the first contest taking place against the Japanese in Gloucester on Wednesday September 23.
The call-up caps Duncan’s comeback from injury, after he missed the Six Nations tournament earlier this year through a hand injury.
He’ll contend with his Glasgow Warriors club mate Finn Russell for a place in the Scottish side.
Duncan’s been capped 18 times for his country, while he recovered from injury enough to take part in Glasgow Warriors successful surge to the Rabo Direct Pro 12 title in May.
There was no place in the final party for Castlemilk man and former King’s Park secondary pupil Rory Hughes.
