Pri­mary school is hon­oured

Cathkin Pri­mary School in Ruther­glen has be­come the latest school to re­ceive recog­ni­tion as a ‘ rights re­spect­ing school’.

It is one of a vast ar­ray of awards and achieve­ments won by chil­dren and schools across South La­nark­shire in the past year.

Around 300 young peo­ple from schools and nurs­eries at­tended the an­nual Ed­u­ca­tion Awards at Hamil­ton Town House re­cently.

Duke of Ed­in­burgh Gold awards were also achieved by 12 young peo­ple.

Coun­cil­lor Brian McKenna, de­pute chair of South La­nark­shire Coun­cil’s Ed­u­ca­tion Re­sources Com­mit­tee, said: “The Ed­u­ca­tion Awards are a won­der­ful event and let ev­ery­one know about the achieve­ments of our young peo­ple which are both amaz­ing and in­spir­ing.

“It show­cases the pos­i­tive im­pact they make in their schools and wider com­mu­ni­ties.

“We are also very grate­ful to the hard work and com­mit­ment our teach­ers show to sup­port chil­dren’s learn­ing, en­cour­age them to aim high and al­ways try their best.”
