Older peo­ple in the Ruther­glen area will be en­cour­aged to take part in Europe’s big­gest com­mu­nity sport event.

MOVEWeek is an an­nual event that aims to pro­mote and en­cour­age phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity on a lo­cal level.

Now in its fourth year, it is led by the In­ter­na­tional Sports and Cul­ture As­so­ci­a­tion and is the flag­ship event of the or­gan­i­sa­tion’s NowWeMOVE cam­paign. MOVEWeek will run this year from Septem­ber 21 to 27 and South La­nark­shire Leisure and Cul­ture Gen­eral Man­ager Gerry Camp­bell was en­thu­si­as­tic about the cam­paign.

He said:“These ex­am­ples of good prac­tice high­light the com­mit­ment be­ing made not only in South La­nark­shire but across Europe to raise the pro­file and im­por­tance of en­gag­ing older peo­ple in phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity and en­cour­ag­ing peo­ple to be­come more phys­i­cally ac­tive.”
