Rutherglen Rotary recently welcomed a popular local figure to talk to the group.

Father Ghislain Mulumanzi of St Columbkille’s was the latest guest speaker for the club, and club members gave him a warm welcome.

Father G, as he is popularly known, came to the club to speak on the subject of Africa and it’s serious problems with youth employment.

A Rotary spokesman said:“He gave an insightful description of the many issues facing young people in that part of the world.

“The African Economic Outlook estimates that 53million of Africa’s 200million young people between the ages of 15 and 24 are in unstable employment and 40million young Africans are out of work.

“However, while 18million of them are looking for a job, 22million have already given up.

“His talk was well received and he was given a Vote of Thanks on behalf of the club by President Jim Wilson who has been friends with Father G for some time.”
