MSP will write to Holyrood over Relief Road row

Rutherglen Reformer - - News -

Bob Doris MSP says it is “unclear” if the Scottish Government can stop the controversial Cathkin Relief Road.

The SNP member for Glasgow is an opponent of the road, and vowed to write to the Scottish government to draw attention to the views of constituents.

But despite being a partner in the City Deal which is funding the £ 21million project, he said: “It is unclear whether the Scottish Government has the power to withdraw funding for individual projects without repercussions, particularly at this stage where planning permission has been granted. Doing so would undermine the mandate Sou t h Lanarkshire Council have to decide on local priorities for their area.

“Ultimately it is the voters who will judge South Lanarkshire Council on their handling of this.

“I do, however, intend to write to the Scottish Government to draw their attention to the views which constituents have expressed to me, and to seek clarification on the wider process of developing the strategic priorities for the City Deal.”
