£6m plan is given backing from MP

Rutherglen Reformer - - News -

Rutherglen MP Margaret Ferrier has welcomed plans for a new £6.7 million stateof-the-art office development at Shawfield.

The scheme proposals have been submitted to South Lanarkshire Council.

If approved, the Red Tree Shawfield building will provide 30,000 square feet of office space to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The plans follow the success of similar Red Tree office developments already in operation at Stonelaw Road in Rutherglen and Dalmarnock Road, Bridgeton.

The Shawfield development is the largest yet, and could potentially see as many as 166 new jobs created in the area.

Margaret Ferrier said: “This is fantastic news for Rutherglen. If these plans are given the go- ahead, it will be an enormous boost for the area. As well as creating local jobs, the proposed development will also bring land back into economic use.

“The transformation of the area is a real lift for Rutherglen. The level of investment and commitment to this area is commendable and I congratulate Clyde Gateway on their ongoing work.
