Church memorial cairn

Rutherglen Reformer - - News from the Pews - Staff reporter

The annual Memorial Cairn Service was held on Tuesday, September 15, at Rutherglen West and Wardlawhill Church.

The cairn was erected to mark the union of the West and Wardlawhill Churches in 2007 and continues as a memorial to loved ones who have contributed so much to the life and witness of both churches.

The plaque on top of the cairn is placed in the centre of a few hundred small pebbles.

Ordinary little stones, but each pebble was lovingly placed in position by members of the garden team and dedicated to the memory of those who have paved a path in our spiritual well-being.

So much meaning in these little pile of stones.

The service was led by John Nicolson, the church’s Locum, and together on a lovely sunny morning, the congregation celebrated the life of not only those they remembered, but also the life within the family of the church.

After this emotional and uplifting service, fellowship was enjoyed over a light lunch provided by the members of the ‘Friendship Café.

Thanks were extended to all who were there.

The congregation celebrated the life of those they remembered and within the church
